Fees & Insurance

Clear, upfront pricing with no surprises. We’re a self-pay, out-of-network practice: here’s exactly what therapy costs, how superbills work, and how to use your out-of-network benefits.

Our session rates

Your fee depends on your therapist’s licensure level. Associate therapists practice under the direct supervision of Jeanette Yoffe, LMFT.

Associate Therapist

AMFT / ACSW / APCC: supervised by a licensed clinician

$175
per 50-min session

Licensed Therapist

LMFT / LCSW / LPCC: fully licensed clinician

$200–$250
per session

Standard sessions are 50 minutes. Your exact fee is confirmed before your first appointment. No hidden charges.

We are an out-of-network, self-pay practice

To keep our care personal and our clinicians focused on you, Yoffe Therapy does not bill insurance directly. We are not in-network with any insurance plan.

That means we do not accept Medi-Cal, Kaiser, or any in-network commercial insurance. Payment is collected directly at the time of each session.

If you have a PPO plan with out-of-network mental health benefits, you may still be reimbursed for a portion of your fees. See how superbills work below.

Why we work this way

Insurance companies often limit the number of sessions, dictate treatment, and require a mental-health diagnosis to be added to your permanent record.

By staying out-of-network, our clinicians spend their full time and energy on your care, not on insurance paperwork, pre-authorizations, or claim denials. You and your therapist decide what your treatment looks like.

How superbills work

A superbill is an itemized receipt for the therapy services you’ve received. You submit it to your insurer, and they may reimburse you directly based on your out-of-network benefits.

1

You pay at the time of session

Your session fee is charged directly to your card, HSA, or FSA on the day of your appointment.

2

We send you a monthly superbill

Each month we provide an itemized superbill containing the diagnostic and procedure codes your insurer needs to process an out-of-network claim.

3

You submit it to your insurer

Most PPO plans let you upload superbills through their member portal or mobile app in a few minutes.

4

They reimburse you directly

Once your deductible is met, your insurer reimburses you, not us, for a percentage of each session, according to your out-of-network benefits.

Please note: HMO-only and EPO plans typically do not include out-of-network benefits, which means superbills usually cannot be reimbursed. Out-of-network reimbursement is generally available only with PPO plans.

Questions to ask your insurer

Before your first session, call the member services number on the back of your insurance card and ask:

  • ? Do I have out-of-network outpatient mental health benefits?
  • ? What is my out-of-network deductible, and how much of it have I already met this year?
  • ? Once my deductible is met, what percentage of each session is reimbursed?
  • ? Is there a cap on the number of sessions reimbursed per year?
  • ? Do you reimburse for CPT codes 90834 (individual) and 90847 (family/couples)?
  • ? How do I submit a superbill, and how long does reimbursement take?

Common questions about fees

Do you take insurance?
No. We are an out-of-network, self-pay practice and do not bill any insurance directly: this includes Medi-Cal, Kaiser, and all in-network commercial plans. You pay at the time of session. If you have a PPO with out-of-network benefits, we provide superbills you can submit for possible partial reimbursement.
What if I have a PPO?
Many PPO plans include out-of-network mental health benefits. After you pay for your sessions, we send you a monthly superbill that you submit to your insurer. Once your out-of-network deductible is met, they reimburse you directly for a percentage of each session. We recommend calling your insurer first using the questions listed above to confirm your benefits.
What’s a superbill?
A superbill is an itemized receipt that documents the therapy services you received, along with the diagnostic and procedure codes your insurer needs. It’s not a bill you owe us. You’ve already paid. Instead, you submit the superbill to your PPO insurance so they can reimburse you directly per your out-of-network benefits. Note that HMO-only plans typically cannot use superbills.
What does a session cost?
Sessions with an associate therapist (AMFT / ACSW / APCC) are $175 per 50-minute session. Sessions with a licensed therapist (LMFT / LCSW / LPCC) range from $200 to $250 per session. Your exact fee is confirmed before your first appointment.
